BRITISH HORSEBALL ASSOCIATION 1st w/e LEAGUE

RESULTS

FOR SENIOR 1ST DIVISION

Newnham-on-Severn Horseball Club,based at Newnham - on - Severn Equestrian Centre,Newnham,Forest of Dean,Gloucester recently took their 1st Division team to the British Horseball Association's 1st League week-end of the season.

Solihull Riding School,Solihull,West Midlands played host to the many horseball teams that had travelled from across the country to take part in the two day competitions.

The sport which is like a combination of Polo,Rugby and Basketball played on horseback,is based on the Argentina's game Pato. Originated in Argentina in the early 1700 (national sport of Argentina) . Horseball is one of the ten disciplines officially recognised by the International Federation on Equestrian Sports.

Horseball is played all over the world in 15 different countries spread over 4 continents.

The pitch is a rectangular pitch ,size 65m x 25m .The ball is a junior size football inside a leather harness with 6 leather handles, goals are shot through a one metre-wide hoop,suspended on a 3m 50 pole.

The game has very strict rules,with 1 chair and one mounted referee on the pitch to enforce them.All horses are inspected for soundness on the morning of every competition. There are four players on the pitch at any time.

Horseball can be a very fast moving sport .A goal can be scored by any player providing 3 consecutive passes have been made between three difference team members before a goal can be scored.The ball must not be held by any player for longer than 10 seconds. If the ball goes out of play the game restarts with a line - out. The opposing players my intercept,tackle or retrieve the ball if it goes to ground whilst still mounted on their horse.

Happy Easter to you all.

Horsewatch schemes have developed to help and advise horse owners about crime prevention but prevention goes beyond matters concerning crime. In the last two weeks in different parts of the country there have been two incidents where stables have caught fire. The result has been death of horses and serious fire damage to other property. In both cases an electrical fault appears to be the cause.

In the current economic climate the last thing many people want is extra expense, however for peace of mind it would seem sensible for those of you who have old premises and perhaps electrical wiring to match to have it professionally examined. As always, once an occurrence has happened it is often too late to rectify the cause.

Apart from a qualified electrician to examine the wiring consider contacting your Fire and Rescue Service and invite them to inspect your premises. Their advice may save lives and property.

We have information that a large number of travellers are 'having to leave' a site in Kent over the Easter bank holiday. The information indicates that they looking to go to the Berkshire and Hampshire areas. Please make sure you have everything blocked and bolted down for that date.

Burglary
On the night of Tuesday 23rd March 2010 at Russells Equestrian Centre, Ellington Lane, West End, a stable was broken into and a dark green KAZUMA DINGO quad bike was stolen. It is brand new.
Also taken was a distinctive bright blue Arena Mate harrow.

A burglary has been reported at a rural location on Galley Lane, Great Brickhill between the 21 and 22 March. Offenders gained entry although nothing appears to have been stolen. Attempts were also made to break into two other units but no entry was gained.

Please remain vigilant and ensure any suspicious activity around farming / rural locations is reported to the Police. Where possible, obtain a description of any persons and the make, model, colour and registration number of any vehicles.

A burglary took place at stables in Wilstead, on Monday the 22nd of March, between 9:10 in the 9:25 in the evening.

The 3 offenders have been disturbed at the stables, and have started to run towards fields carrying 6 saddles.
Whilst being chased the offenders have dropped the stolen property and made off.
All 3 offenders were wearing balaclavas.
All of the stolen property has been recovered.
Bedfordshire Police ask rural businesses, and owners of livestock to be vigilant.

Please consider security marking all valuable property, it is a good deterant and can assist in tracing recovered property.

Please report any suspicious visitors, or vehicles immediately, to the Police Control Centre.

On the 15th March in the Great Cheverell, Devizes area, a Horse Rider reported that her horse had been bitten by a Dog. The Horse bucked and the rider was thrown off! No injury reported.....It's believed the dog was a Jack Russell, one of three being walked off the lead.....

On the 20th March in the Bradford on Avon area, two unbroken 2 yr olds were found to have Plaits in there manes! This practice is now thought to be connected with Pagan good luck spells! Usual security measures should be put in place - regular checking and gates made secure as possible...

Farm Watch update 25 March 2010

Scam details
A farm in Shipton Gorge in Bridport has received a telephone call from a male purporting to be from the Council saying he was in credit (past similar reports have said for his council tax) and asking for his bank details in order to pay in the credit.

I believe this is part of a scam which has also been reported by many home watch members throughout West Dorset and North Dorset for that council area.

Please be very aware. It has been going on for some time now.
And now for some crime information

• Anderson a 2-wheel 8 x 4 Wessex trailers well secured to another was stolen from a driveway this afternoon.

• A member in Friar Waddon Weymouth reported 4 suspicious males in a silver or blue Fiesta/Saxo type vehicle who drove onto the farm yesterday afternoon part registration Y92 FC?. We can find no local matches. For observations.

• Similar report from Beaminster sus vehicle seen several times entering driveway where a lot of tools and building materials are on site. One of the builders on site thought he saw the vehicle in a field nearby recently with pig carcasses onboard.

Reddish Reliant Robin Van registration A391 TYB which there is no trace so look for similar number. Can't be many of these about! incident 158 dated 25 March to eliminate from our enquiries.

• Theft of scrap metal by 3 males in a white Transit BN02 HHG yesterday morning Childhay Beaminster. This is a Devon registered vehicle. Incident 177 dated 24 March refers. I believe they stole a pig feeding machine from outside a barn.

• Break to farm building in Nottington Weymouth on Monday but not reported. Not sure if anything stolen as yet.

• Chelbourne Dorchester break to workshop, rear window smashed. Not sure what stolen yet although chain saws and strimmers are missing discovered 24 March.
• Attempted theft of a trailer from East Woodyates discovered 24 March. Insecure barn entered. Wheel clamp removed perhaps were disturbed as not stolen.

Farm Watch Update 24 March 2010

• Tarrant Hinton afternoon of 18 March believe farm buildings were entered but it is not believed anything was stolen. Tyre tracks indicated that a small wheel base vehicle similar to a Fourtrack or Suzuki jeep type vehicle may have been at the scene. Corrugated iron had been peeled back but not enough for entry to be gained. Building contains diesel and tools.

• May or may not be connected but a theft of a trailer from a field in Newtown Lane Corfe Mullen was reported on 20 March. about 1730 hrs. A neighbour believed he saw the trailer being towed by a dark red (maroon) 4 x 4 but no details as to possible make or model. It sounds like it was an old trailer used to carry hay around the field.

• Cranborne 3 rolls wire netting discovered stolen this morning. 4 x 4 tyre tracks at scene.
• Break to agricultural outbuildings in Ashley Heath, Horton Road. The building appeared secure and no alarm activated but tools are missing from within. Discovered on 19th but could have occurred anytime over the previous month.

• Milton Road Milborne St Andrew 2 inflatable motor boats on trailers stolen from a farm yard one believed taken evening of 19th the other evening of 20th. Both trailers have wheel clamps.

• Milton Abbas guinea fowl stolen from secure pen 10/20 March.

• Theft from barn in Piddlehinton discovered 19th March. Chainsaw and portable power hose stolen. It is possible that a walk in theft occurred day time of 16th when the barn was insecure.

• Outbuildings broken into in Hooke Beaminster 21/22. Padlock cropped to stable block although it does not appear that anything has been stolen.

• Yetminster Sherborne theft from barn. Most odd. Wheelie bin and lead rope stolen from livery yard! Lead rope unclipped from head collar. There have been other thefts from farms in this area

• Message for Horse Watch in the Corfe Mullen area. A farmer is appealing to riders to please keep to the bridle path on the private lane leading from the triangle at Broadmoor Road up to Knoll Farm Christian Mission and Castle Court School. The bridle path does not lead through Knoll Farm Christian Mission, this is a public right of way only. The bridle path leads through Castle Court School. Thank you so much.

A 3 year old Appaloosa gelding has been discovered missing presumed stolen from a field in Waytown Bridport 26/28 March.
He is blanket spotted, white blanket of hair overlaying a brown body on hind quarters.
There is no picture available of this gelding.

Incident number 234 dated 28 March.

on 4 March the victim disturbed a male in a blue/grey Landrover in her yard and when disturbed made excuses. It was a "Q" plate but no registration number taken. May or may not be connected. I have asked for some checks to be done to see how many national Landrovers have "Q" plates but these checks take some time. I will update you if I get any possible hits.

This theft has raised a number of security concerns. Please look out for an abandoned Red Landrover N983 NTC which was stolen overnight from Aston Somerville, Broadway. The registration may be changed but It is distinctive as it only has one foot step which is on the passenger side. If you know of its whereabouts or see it being driven please call 0300 333 3000 quoting incident number 65-S-220310.

Any 4x4 vehicle is at risk of being stolen so please don’t leave them with keys on the side of the road or in your yard. There has been a recent increase in theft of Diahatsu Fourtraks and Izusu Troopers. If you know any information concerning this I am happy to visit you to discuss or you can ring Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555 111.

There have also been diesel thefts from commercial and smaller residential premises. I know its difficult to lock everything up but if you make life slightly harder for the thieves they will give in and move on somewhere else.

Rural Watch Message 31/03/2010
Dear all, please be aware of a couple of suspicious vehicles in our area. The first has been seen locally in and around Broadway and could be linked to thefts of scrap. The occupants are cheeky and will enter your premises uninvited. It is a red dropside van index N719HVL.

The other one is a white Mercedes index P579RGB. This one was seen taking an interest in a quad bike which was re fuelling at a local garage. The occupants of the van then followed the quad home.
Some good news stories.

Police attended a farm in Pensham, nr Pershore.They found two stolen tractors, one from Wick Rissington and the other from Quenington, nr Cirencester. It appears the tractors were being stored on a farm prior to being taken out of the country. Thanks to the person who reported it to us 2 males were arrested at the scene and two tractors have been recovered. The vehicles were just about to be loaded up and taken out of the country.

A 32 year old male from Taunton has been arrested in connection with a burglary near to Bourton on the Water where a quad bike, a trailer and a Volvo had been stolen.

In Presteigne a search of premises revealed a stolen Manitou loader, a McCormick tractor, a Landrover Defender and a Case Tractor. Again this was due to information received from an informant.

The males were seen taking pictures of the horses. The owner of these horses has confirmed that they do not know of any reason why the males should be doing this.

I have just received information about a suspicious vehicle in Cherry Orchard, Newland yesterday at 5.45pm with two white males.

The first male approx 25 yrs is very tall (over 6ft) and has dark hair and was wearing Jeans, sweatshirt and trainers he walked into a stable yard where he proceeded to take photos of a young girl grooming her pony mare with coloured foal at foot.

The 2nd male also white and described as being large (overweight)

The vehicle was a Silver VW Golf reg no: PF52 HZS
The girls father challenged the male Who became verbally abusive and ran off to the parked car and they drove away heading in the monmouth direction through Redbrook.

This incident has been reportred to Glos Police inc no 349 of 9-3-10

Road Sense

Horse riders have a right to use the roads as a means of safe and enjoyable travel, but should also share a responsibility to understand the needs and problems of other road users. Riders would prefer not to use the roads, but often have little choice because it is their only way to bridleways and other facilities off the road.

Drivers take care!

It may not always be obvious to vehicle drivers why horses and riders are doing what they are doing, although there is normally a good reason.

Remember the following points, particularly whilst driving on roads where you are more likely to meet horses, such as country lanes.

* Take care on approaching blind bends – never go so fast that you can’t easily stop, there could be a horse and rider round the next one.

* Drive slowly past horses - give them plenty of room and be prepared to stop.

* Do not scare animals by using your horn or revving your engine.

* Look out for horse riders’ signals.

* Take extra care with child and other inexperienced riders and horses.

* Always treat horses as a potential hazard and expect the unexpected.

When you see horses on the road – always slow down!

Riders – look after yourselves!

Sometimes horse riders don’t do themselves any favours on the road and endanger other road users, their horses and their own safety by not taking a few simple precautions or following a few simple rules:

* Always wear a riding helmet with the strap done up – remember it’s compulsory for under 14’s.

* Wear fluorescent or other bright clothing in daylight – you’ll be spotted sooner.

* Wear something reflective if you have to ride in very poor light or at night.

* If you have to ride at night or in poor visibility, make sure your horse has reflective bands above the fetlock joints and that you carry lights – white to the front, red to the rear.

* Make sure your tack, etc. is in good condition before going on the road.

* Give clear arm signals before moving off or manoeuvring.

* Keep over to the left of the road.

* Always ride in single file on narrow roads or bend approaches.

* Don’t ride on footpaths, pavements or Redways.

ICE - In Case of Emergency

Eight out of ten people aren’t carrying information that would help if they were involved in an accident. Storing next-of-kin details in your mobile phone can assist the emergency services if you’re unable to tell them who to contact.

How does it work?

Simply use your mobile’s phone book to store the name and number of someone who should be contacted if you have an emergency – but add the letters ICE in front of their name.

ICE stands for ‘In Case of Emergency’: it’s what the emergency services will look for if you’re involved in an accident and have your mobile phone with you. This straightforward idea was developed by the East Anglian Ambulance Trust and is supported by Vodafone.

Getting started

On most mobile phones you simply need to select ‘Contacts’ and choose ‘Add New Contact’, then enter the letters ‘ICE’ next to the name, followed by the telephone number of your next of kin. Make sure you choose a number that’s easy to get in touch with – a home number could be useless in an emergency if the person works full time. We recommend that you enter daytime and evening numbers where this is possible.

What should I do next?

Make sure the person whose name and number you are giving has agreed to be your ‘ICE partner’. You should also make sure your ICE partner has a list of people to contact on your behalf, such as your place of work. In addition, they’ll need to know about any medical conditions that could affect your emergency treatment, including allergies or medication.

If you’re under 18, your ICE partner should be your mother, your father or an immediate member of your family authorised to make decisions on your behalf. Friends and other relatives won’t be able to make decisions for you if you’re admitted to hospital.

Storing an ICE number makes it easier for everyone if you’re involved in an accident. It only takes a few seconds, so do it today - please.

Remember horse riders are as much entitled to use the road as vehicle drivers. Each should help the other whenever possible; a little courtesy from both sides never goes amiss!!

Suspicious Incident In Romsey Area

A horse owner reported that 2 of his 5 horses had escaped from their field and had got onto a road. They were recaptured.

Upon inspection, the horses appeared doped and lathargic, (not just the two that escaped, all of them). It is not known if the owner had the horses examined by a vet to establish if the horses had been administered anything

Their tails had apparently had plaits in them (hidden underneath), their forelock was trimmed.

Another reason to post code your rugs
1. Recently in North Hampshire a horse escaped from its field at night and got onto a main road where it was involved a road traffic collision with a car. The horse was badly damaged and had be euthanized by a vet who was called out. The horse was wearing a rug. Had the rug been postcoded the owner could have been identified and contact quickly. As it was it was the next morning before the owners found out.

2. In Hampshire a horse went awol from its field, wearing a rug. Eventually it was found….but again no post code on the rug. It was some time before owner was found.

Horses wearing rugs can become immune to electric fencing so think about extra security for keeping your horse safe and secure

24/02/10 - White ford Transit - CN03JZU male attended winchester garden machienery in Fair Lane. Was asking lots of questiones and was "sussing" out the store - have had similar incidents over the last few days. Any sightings of this vehicle plese report to police.

23/02/10 - Hesington Lane Eastleigh, Unkown person have made a plait in horses mane.

23/02/10 - Hesington Lane - Large mateal farm out building being used as tack room was all secured with gates and padlocks, entry was gained and a large amount of tack stolen - saddles, horse rugs, grooming kits and riding boots ect.

23/02/10 - Poles Lane Otterbourne - Attempt theft of vehicle.

22/02/10 - New Barn Lane Crawley - Barn built on air strip site. Gates and building were secured by padlocks. Offenders cut locks, entered land, drove to barn. Various tack and generator stolen and 5 hangers were also entered and searched - fuel and tools stolen.

23/02/10 - Batteries stolen from farm land - Old alresford.

23/02/10 - A 2 door, navy blue shogun pulling a pale blue trailer with ladders on drove into farm land in Tangier Lane Bishops Wathem, when challenged males said they were looking for scap lead. All three males were well built - no further descriptions.

22/02/10 - Boundry Walk knowle - Fareham. Security guard saw 3 males jump fence into construction site. Possibly afetr copper - area search no trace - nothing reported stolen. All three males were wearing black jackets with the hoods up - no further description.

22.02/10 - Beauworth - Suss maroon Audi was seen at 1400 on Saturday 20th parked in Lane near to informant house. Vehichle was seen parked again on Sunday 21/02 with four males in - again just parked in lane. Possiibly watching coming and goings of occupants. 1 male had bright blonde hair, no further description given.

Winchester Crime Update in last 24 hours as from 04/03/10
In relation to the theft of the cattle crush from Old Alresford a couple of days ago. The crush itself is unusual in that it is one for long horned cattle.
There are two vehicles which were possible involved:

1) A Ford Transit flat bed with a HiAb crane on the rear, VU55WPD

2) A silver Ford, V701HFL

4.3.10, 10.30am, seen at Bridgets Lane, Martyr Worthy, a tatty looking Ford Transit van, M813LOV. This vehicle is believed to be involved in illegal metal detecting.
4.3.10, 11.15am, seen on the A32 Exton. A white Mercedes van on foreign registration plates. The vehicle had the bonnet up and three males, described as looking 'Eastern European' where flagging down cars and asking the occupants for money for diesel.

A bit of good news

Yesterday two males from Wickham and Shirrell Heath were charged with poaching offences after being caught on private land at Mayles Lane, Wickham by a Police patrol on the 26th December.

Suspicious Vehicle

At 4pm 25th February 2010 the following vehicle waas seen in what was believed to be sus circumstances in the following location - Mt Pleasant Lane towards Lymington. Just beyond Setters Farm there was a white pick-up truck with an orange lamp on top of the cab parked in a field entrance. As informant drew near the vehicle it pulled out and drove off fairly rapidly. This seemed a strange thing to do in a narrow lane with an oncoming car. May be innocent, but was odd behaviour and there has been some fly tipping recently in this field gates and closer to Scats.

It looked to be a 10+ year old pick up, and the orange lamp would make it quite distinctive! Something to bear in mind.

The above relates to the theft of a galvanised gate from Whitefield Farm. The padlock and chain was cut and the gate lifted off. No-one seen and would appear to have been done overnight as the horse that was in the field was found some distance away.

Please advise people when hanging a gate to place them with one gatehook upside down so that it cannot be lifted off.

THAMES VALLEY COMMUNITY MESSAGING - Wycombe - H 03/001]

This is a Ringmaster message from the High Wycombe watch office on Monday 1st March 2010.

Between 5:00pm on Friday 26th and 10:00am on Saturday 27th February, offenders gained entry to a stable building on Wooburn Common Road, Wooburn Green and stole a two seated red and black coloured horse drawn cart. It is also described as having two gold coloured wheels and two gold coloured horse shoes on the mudguards. Also stolen was a 4 wheel, 10' x 8' black metal framed twin axel trailer, with brown wooden sides.

The owner of a valuable statue of a horse’s head stolen on Friday night is offering a £5,000 reward for any information that will bring the thieves to justice and return his statue.

The statue, which was stolen between 7pm and 8.47pm on Friday (26/02) from a wooden plinth in the garden of a farm in the Bledlow Ridge area, is an artwork by Nic Fiddian-Green.

PC Craig Duncan, the officer investigating the theft, said: “The statue is unique and easily identifiable and I am appealing to anyone who has seen it since the theft, or who has information that could help our investigation, to come forward.”

Title: NIGHT POACHING?

There have been an number of suspicious incidents in the Haven area in recent weeks which have involved lights being shone into trees on private property at night ( possibly looking for roosting birds) . The persons responsible have also been disturbed looking in out buildings and have had dogs with them. One Farmwatch member was forced off the road by a blue Luton style vehicle after he had a torch shone into his face whilst driving. There has also been a series of incidents in the Lower Beeding , Plummers Plain area where it is believed that night poachers have been disturbed. At the end of January they were disturbed and crashed their vehicle into a gate post making a getaway , the vehicle is believed to be extensively damaged and is a blue Suzuki Vitara V6 registration number N 905 XKK. It is believed that they were either after Badgers or Deer. Serial 1594 of 23/1/10 refers.

Sussex Police currently has 43 Wildlife Crime Officers (WCOs) working across Sussex, all of whom perform the role alongside their day-today policing duties. By the end of 2009 it’s hoped that this number will have increased to around 60 WCOs.

Help us crack down on abandoned vehicles and anti-social driving.

Sussex Police are leading a pioneering partnership which employs the latest technology to provide an easy to use facility for Sussex residents to report abandoned vehicles or an act of anti-social driving.

Operation Crackdown is a multi-agency facility with two key aims:

* Reducing the amount of time vehicles remain abandoned (saving significant costs in the process).

* Targeting persistent bad drivers before they cause an accident.

We know there are problems in parts of Sussex. With your help we can tackle the inconsiderate people who continue to drive in an anti-social manner or abandon their end-of-life vehicles.

You can tell us about any abandoned vehicle or anti-social driving you’ve witnessed using the Operation Crackdown website.

What exactly constitutes anti-social driving?

There is no strict definition. However typical examples of anti-social driving might include speeding, thoughtless or reckless driving, under-age driving, drink driving, tailgating, using a mobile phone whilst driving, driving a vehicle which looks to be in an unsafe condition.

What should I do if I see an abandoned vehicle or someone driving in an anti-social manner?

* Pull over safely at the side of the road or ask a passenger to write down details.

* Note the vehicle’s make, model, colour and number plate (which will help with police enquiries).

* When noting the location, use house numbers and road names to pinpoint where the incident happened or where you spotted a potential abandoned vehicle.

* Write a brief description of what you witnessed, while it is still fresh in your mind.

Title: COUNTERFEIT AGROCHEMICALS

Issue Date: 10/2/2010

Police have received reports that dangerous counterfeit agrochemicals are being illegally imported into Europe. The counterfeiters are using well known brand names including Granstar, Harmony, Score, Reglone, Gaucho, Prestige, Raxil and Nurelle.

These counterfeit agrochemicals are then distributed throughout Europe including the UK to unsuspecting parties who believe the pesticides to be genuine. The chemicals that are being distributed are untested, unsafe and potentially hazardous.

Pesticides are believed to be packaged and sold as genuine products to farmers.

There are obvious health risks to farmers applying or storing the counterfeit pesticides. Do not purchase other than from your usual regular reputable sources and if in doubt contact the manufacturer directly to verify the source.

Rural Crime

A barn was burgled in Mouse Lane Steyning between 4th and 5th February 2010 and a green Timber Wolfe quad and red childs engine buggy and battery were stolen. Police serial 252 of 8/2/10 refers

Farm premises in London Road Balcombe had electric gates forced to gain entry to the yard where a red Honda Foreman 400cc quad bike, 800lts of red diesel, flatbed trailer, tools and a hole borer where stolen. Police serial 126 of 8/2/10 refers.

In the last week 3 older 4x4s have been hotwired and stolen from the Southwater and Mannings Heath area. One has been abandoned , one burnt out and the third found. Please review the security on older 4x4s and consider additional security devices.

Stolen Tack

On the afternoon of the 03/03/2010, a large amount of tack was stolen from a yard in Tillington, West Sussex. Tack was stolen from tackroom whilst owner put their horse back in the field after riding.

Horse box stolen from A259 Rustington layby 16.2.10. vehicle reg number is X796BVN. Vehicle parked eastbound carriageway at entrance of fields. Tack and television inside vehicle.

Plaiting Incident

We received info today in the LUNSFORDS CROSS area, an owner has found two plaits in her Shire Horse's mane.

The incident occurred between 1600 hrs 17.02.2010 and 1000 18.02.2010. The horse’s neck coat had also been removed.

This is a Countryside Watch message issued by Ringmaster, on behalf of Bedfordshire Police.

Please pass on the details of this message to any neighbours, or business contacts.

A vehicle crime has taken place at a farm, and equestrian location, in Farndish, Wellingborough, between 11:00 in the morning, on the 6th, and 3:00 in the afternoon, on the 9th of February.

Offenders have approached the side door of a horse box, and gained access to the location. Once inside the location, offenders have then stolen a stereo. The offender have then approached, and gained access to the front cab, and removed another stereo.

Bedfordshire Police ask rural business owners to be vigilant, and to report any suspicious vehicles, or visitors, to the Police Control Centre.

10 rolls of brand new stock fence have been stolen about 11am on the 10th Feb and took it all, it surprised us how fearless they were as there's people in and out all day.

A burglary to outbuildings was reported early hours of 3 Feb in Buckland Newton area. This has been the news and many of you would have already heard it. The occupant disturbed the offenders and tried to block them in with his vehicle. It is believed the males made off on foot after crashing their vehicle.

Toller Porcorum Dorchester a farm outbuilding broken into sometime during the day yesterday. A trials bike was stolen. There were other trials bikes and a quad in the shed which remained untouched.

Discovered yesterday.

4 sheep believed killed by a dog. Milton Abbas Blandford 31 Jan/1 Feb.

A member in Verwood has had visitors in their yard overnight. Tractor door opened. Padlocks moved, horses spooked. Possibly a recky for later.

Farm Watch 8 Feb 10

General update for you

* Saddles have been stolen from a garage on a farm in Fleet Lane chickerell Weymouth discovered evening of 4 Feb. The garage was open at the time of the theft. 3 saddles hidden at the rear of the garage stolen.

* Church Road Three Legged Cross Wimborne horse feed stolen from feed containers in a shelter 4/5 FEb.

* Ashmore electric poultry fence stolen from field 4/5 Feb

* Hardings House Lane Sherborne farm outbuilding forced open discovered 5 Feb. Nothing appears stolen from within.

* Farm in Dorchester near Martinstown reports the theft of diesel. Almost a full tank containing 5000 litres stolen located next to the house. Discovered 5 Feb

* Caravan stolen from an agricultural yard in Holt Road Three Legged cross discovered 5 Feb. Left there last Tuesday.

* Long Bredy Dorchester Bale of hay stolen from farm by 4 males in a vehicle registration given as S89 PAB. This is a Devon registered vehicle and comes back to a blue Toyota Scarlet. However someone else saw this vehicle and thought it was a Vauxhall Corsa. Seen by someone else with staw sticking out of the back. One to observe but look for similar number.

* Massey Ferguson Tractor in Dog Dean Wimborne had its seat stolen but sometime since 8 Jan. Only just discovered. The tractor is 50 years old. Members may recall a while back someone was stealing parts to these very old model tractors so if you have one please reassess your security. Someone is restoring one and does not want to pay for the parts!

* Attempted theft of diesel from a farm in Cowgrove reported this afternoon. Padlock forced from tank in yard. Overnight. Does not believe any diesel stolen.

* Finally a Wareham member has asked if anyone has a quadbike trailer they would like to sell? If you let me know I will pass your details on.

West members were advised recently but a small van was routinally stopped last week full of fuel cans and pumping equipment. A victim phoned in later that day! Good result.

East Dorset Farmers there is a vehicle we are looking to elliminate from our enquires, one of many I might add, but blue BMW 316 AP51 ZDL. Containers broken into at Wattons Lane Matchams discovered 8 Feb, stop checked in the area prior to that was this blue BMW! Mind you general building tools including a concrete mixer and diesel stolen so a van or lorry would have been needed.

* A member in Bere Regis reports a silver van, Vauxhall Vivaro DY56 VRK containing a male and 2 females on his farm.

You need to be aware of this vehicle especially if you have any building work going on on your farm! Incident 384 dated 10 Feb.

* A Massey Ferguson Tractor left disabled in a field in Gillingham. This is the summary from the crime report.

"THIS CRIME RELATES TO THE THEFT OF A MASSEY FERGUSON TRACTOR LEFT UNATTENDED IN FIELD ADJACENT TO THE B3081 CROSSROADS AT WEST BOURTON. VICTIM SECURED TRACTOR BY DISABLING IT IN THAT HE REMOVED VEHICLE BATTERY AND TOOK IT HOME WITH HIM AND DISCONNECTED THE CABLES FROM THE STARTER MOTOR. HE ALSO DUG THE FRONT LOADER INTO THE GROUND IN FRONT OF TRACTOR. ONLY TENUIOUS INFORMATION HE CAN GIVE RE ANY POSSIBLE SUSPECT IS THAT AT ABOUT 1330 HRS YESTERDAY 9TH FEBRUARY, A MALE DRIVING A CAR TRANSPORTER WITH WHITE CAB AND BEAVER TAIL ON TRAILER PART STOPPED AND SPOKE TO HIM ASKING IF HE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN RENTING HIS FIELD OR PART OF IT TO MALE TO KEEP HORSES ON. MALE DESCRIBED AS WHITE, MID-30'S CLEAN SHAVEN, WELL BUILT, 5'9" LOCAL SOUTHERN ACCENT, SHORT SCRUFFY DK BROWN HAIR WEARING WORKING CLOTHES."

* Bloxworth Wareham dark Subaru looked very suspicious yesterday afternoon. Registration given ass L554VBD but this refers to a Citroen which may have been scrapped. Just for information.

* More sheep missing. 40 out of 500 taken from a field in Long Crichel discovered 9 FEb. There does seem to be a lot of sheep going missing at the moment.

* Theft of a alu tipping trailer from Crawford Bridge Spetisbury 8/9 FEb.

* Winterborne Clenston. Attempted theft of a trailer which was locked onto the back of a vehicle. Neighbourhing trailer then stolen. A generator was stolen from the attached trailer. However the flat bed cover on the pick up was also forced open

* Salisbury Road Blandford Truck broken into. "THE PICKUP HAS A TWO PIECE DOOR, TOP OPENS UP AND THE BOTTOM BECOMES A TAILGATE, THE TOP HAS HAD THE TWO LOCKING PINS FORCED AND TAILGATE DROPPED, THE ITEMS THEN REMOVED TWO STIHL CHAINSAWS ONE HAS 'NO.2' ON THE TOP AND THE OTHER PLAIN BOTH ORANGE. ONE STIHL BUSH CUTTER AND HARNESS, TIFOR WINCH AND RESPECTIVE CABLE ON A ROLE. " 8 Feb 10.

As suspected I think we may have the start of a crime series regarding caravan thefts.

East Dorset members will recall a caravan was stolen recently from an agricultural yard in Holt Road Mannington recently. I now have a report of another caravan stolen from a farm in Sixpenny Handley believed night of 14 Feb. A Elddis EX300 cream with green stripes. Single axle. Tyre tracks look like a 4 x 4.

Historically all our caravans have gone from East Dorset close to the A31 and start this time of year but security is quite tight now for these sites and locations so please all reconsider the security of your vans on site. I have asked the crime reduction officer to look into this.

A member reported this afternoon 16th a suspicious green Volvo S699 JOD in the grounds of a large private house in Cranborne containing three suspicious males.

Do you remember the silver Vectra before Christmas which changed to a blue K reg Landrover? Now driving a green Volvo!!

Poaching and outbuilding security needs reassessing!

Yesterday in Wimborne ST Giles a member was seen trying to gain entry to an estate gate on the B3081 and were disturbed. Green Nissan or Ford Pick up. NO registration number.

Theft of household fuel from a farm in Caundle Marsh Sherborne 15 FEb.

Quad bike stolen from Spetisbury 12 Feb but recovered down a dirt track. Perhaps disturbed on returning home? 2 males were seen in a silver can on the farm earlier asking for scrap batteries. The quad would have been seen.

Electric fence unit and battery stolen from a field in Anderson 13/15 Feb.

Hay stolen early hours of 13 Feb Up Cerne Dorchester believed by 2 Landrovers with trailers. No further details

Swanage jockey wheel and jacking mechanism stolen from a trailer in Valley Road Swanage. Hog roast machine also stolen from neighbours.

2 more sheep stolen from a field in Winterborne Stickland 15 Feb. I have put in a request for all livestock carriers, including horse boxes and trailers to be stopped at night and checked for sheep.

Heating oil stolen from Beaminster 250l 11 Feb. Also Holwell Sherborne 18 Jan to 14 Feb and Dewlish 1000L between Dec and 15 Feb. A tanker was heard one morning but not investigated. Cannot say which day.

* A farmer at Ibberton reported the following last week.

"AN ATTEMPTED THEFT OF FENCE POSTS FROM AN ISOLATED FIELD NORTH OF IBBERTON VIEW POINT. THE VICTIM WAS RETURNING HOME WHEN HE SAW A RED PEUGEOT 406 T848AMO PARKED IN ONE OF HIS FIELD ENTRANCES. AS HE DROVE PASSED HE SAW A MALE LOADING FENCE POSTS INTO THE REAR OF THE PEUGEOT. HE STOPPED CHALLENGED THE MALE, HE RECOVERED ALL OF THE POSTS, CALLED THE POLICE AND THE MALE MADE OFF."

Enquiries are in hand to arrest the male.

* Waddock burglary 27/28 Feb. A refridgerator has been forced open and 6 or more sets of scales have been stolen.

* Stony Lane Burton burglary to sheds discovered this morning. Animals have been let out. Batteries have been stolen. Report just coming in so no further details.

* Hurn Court Lane Hurn (very rural for this area) garage entered left unlocked for a delivery. A mountain bike stolen 25/28 Feb.

* Vehicle called at farm in Dorchester Road Lytchett Minster 24 Feb asking for scrap. White Transit W192 MRP. That vehicle does require observations please and was also in the Weymouth area that morning so is travelling. Phone this one in please. 01202 222222. Incident 131 dated 24 Feb.

* Another one in Minchington Blandford 24 Feb Blue Peugeot 406 Estate W184YUA male and female asking for scrap. Salisbury keeper. Incident 122 dated 24 Feb.

* An insecure old Landrover stolen from a secluded farm yard in Cherry Orchard Gillingham discovered missing 26 Feb.

* 10 tractor weights from a John Deere stolen from the front of a tractor in Hampreston 25/26 Feb.

* 17/02/10 Message from Avon and Somerset. Vehicle possibly involved in theft from Farms in Hardington Mandeville Yeovil overnight 17/02/2010. Research shows this vehicle was in Beaminster 23/01/10 in isolated location asking for scrap.

* VN05VCY White Ford Ranger Pick up 4 x 4. Suspected of being involved in farm equipment in Yeovil area

Farm Watch 25th February 2010

2 quad bikes have been stolen from the Sherborne area overnight

Oborne. No details available as yet but I understand numerous items were found in a field nearby which are being examined.

Purse Caundle quad stolen from a secure outbuilding and taken across fields.

A suspicious white flat bed was driving up and down a track in the early hours of this morning to a farm member in Milton Abbas. No further details available. This was about 0400 hrs.

A similar report from Bere Heath Bere Regis. White Transit flat bed. Occupants got out of the vehicle about 4.45 hrs this morning on the farm and when the lights went on jumped back in and made off.

In the Critchel area of Wimborne a suspicious silver/steel grey transit van was acting suspiciously registration KU53OZM. This comes back to a white Transit from up North and registered to a company so not sure if the registration number was slightly out or this is the same vehicle and sold on.

a 6ft jemmy and a Dewalt Battery Drill was found stolen after they had left although there is no evidence at this stage to say they have stolen it.

Suspicious Vehicle

A White SEAT Marbella Special vehicle reg number K845 VPL was seen at stables near Sherston, Wilsthire on Monday 8/2/10 at around 14:45 hours.

In the vehicle was a White Male and a White Female, both were having a good look around the stables.

The thieves seemed to have been picky in what they took - taking a riding hat in a Derby House protective bag, some leather gloves and 3 (quite distinctive) headcollars and lead ropes.

The hat is a well used Charles Owen basic skull cap with a faded black silk and silver/black hi-viz band and the gloves light brown soft leather.

The rugs include 5 turnout rugs (1xbrand new 6'9" Saxon pale brown lightweight, 1x 6'6" /9" pale blue weatherbeeter high neck and a navy/red trim thick stable rug).

1 x purple 5'6" winter turnout with neck with 'ROMY' writen on the chest area (very faint) and 2x Shires Highlander rugs (tarten) with necks (6' and 6'3"). The 6'3" has a repair on the hind quarters and the 6' has the owners name (Crocker) and postcode marker on the inside label.

Please be aware of an incident that occurred last night in the area of Welsh House Lane, Newent, Gloucestershire, where 3 white males were disturbed after tampering with 3 horseboxes. There has been a spate of Thefts around the Newent area involving Diesels, Quad bikes and now seems to be horseboxes.

The vehicle seen with the males was a white transit no reg took at this time however a white transit has been seen in these areas driving into yards and then items have been taken not long after.

White transit reg S341 RKU.

Please be aware of this vehicle or other suspicious vehicles in your area and please passed this onto others so hopefully we can catch these offenders in the act.

Please be aware that a bay gelding was stolen from Littleton Pastures, South Littleton on the 16th February. The horse is approximately 16.2hh and has a small star on his face. It has also been bar fired.

It was taken during daylight hours from a secure field. There is currently an entry on the Stolen Horse Register which gives further identity details. If you know anything about this theft please let us know immediately, either call me or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

There is also a small silver/blue vehicle similar to a Peugeot 205 which has been sighted in the area on at least two occasions acting suspiciously. The registration is similar to M874KRW. Again, if you see this vehicle please let me know.

Farm Watch Incident Alert - overnight 1st/2nd February 2010 horse saddles/bridles, rugs and a generator were stolen from a stable yard near to Skelton Castle.

Two males with dogs were worrying sheep at Upsall Grange Farm on 28th January 2010. They were using a silver Peugeot Estate car X418 UST.

On 24th January 2010 police seized lamping equipment from four juveniles and a male age 20yrs who were stopped on land at Margrove Park, Boosbeck. The adult received a Police Caution and the juveniles were reprimanded.

[Redcar & Cleveland Community Messaging - redcar - Farm Watch Update 25/2/10]

Farm Watch Incident Update - following the theft of a Mitsubishi Shogun from Pontac Farm, New Marske on Tuesday 16th February 2010 police intelligence indicates there is a team of criminals from Durham with contacts in North Yorkshire and Cleveland driving around farms at all hours of the day and night looking for vehicles to steal. It is strongly suggested that vehicles are NOT left unattended, at anytime, with keys in the ignition.

Overnight 20th/21st February 2010 an unknown person attempted to steal a Man Trucks horse box from Saltburn Riding School, Saltburn. Entry was via an insecure cab door and damage was caused to the steering column and ignition.

A blue Ford Transit van NU03 XZZ with three male occupants one wearing a HI VIZ vest were seen acting suspiciously in Dunsdale Village, Guisborough.

A small trailer with tools, shovels, picks and a jerry can was stolen from the Sita UK Compound, Dunsdale, Guisborough on 15th February 2010.

Please remain vigilant at all times and don't hesitate to contact the police on 01642 326326 should you see anyone acting suspiciously.

Spate of attacks at Hill Top Farm, Briestfield Road, Briestfield.

The above address has been subject to a number incidents of thefts from a Horse trailer in a week, whereby event clothing and Hats were stolen and finally the trailer Hitch has been removed. This latter act the owner believes is an act preparatory to the final theft of the trailer. On one occaision snow revealed the Farm had been approached on foot following the offenders parking a vehicle in a lay by on Fixby Lane from behind the Farm.

Unexplained Incident

I have also been sent this by one of our members - Please keep your eyes open if you live in this area.

I wanted to inform you of a suspicious incident concerning a friends horse last Friday night / early hours Saturday morning ( 5/6th Feb) My friend keeps her horse and two ponies at her parents house in HAll Bank Tydd St Giles, Wisbech, Cambs. At approximately 0400 hrs on 06/02/2010 the neighbours were woken up by a horse whinnying very loudly and sounding in distress. They rang her parents up who went to check the horses. The two ponies were distressed and galloping up and down, but the horse was no where to be seen. He was found at the bottom of a water filled dyke running between their property and the road. It would appear the horse had barged through a barbed wire fence and down the steep bank approx12-15 ft deep and ended up in the dyke at the bottom. The horse had to be rescued by 4-5 fire appliances with specialist equipment. Luckily the horse wasn't badly injured, mostly cuts, bruises and shock.

It is believed by the owner that the horse had been forced into the corner and people unknown had tried to catch him. ( Luckily he has never been easy to catch) There does not appear to be any reason for him to have gone through the barbed wire and down the bank. The horse is used to grazing in the field and is aware of the fence and the steep bank. Also if he was just trying to get away from a wild animal of any kind or even someone lamping in the field he could have easily run into another part of the field as it is approximately 12 acres. It was also noted by the owner that the ground was very cut up along the bank which it hadn't been the previous day. Which looks like the horse had been galloping up and down a lot.

The owner spoke to another owner of a horse who keeps hers in a field behind where her horse is kept. The other owner on checking her horse the following day noticed he was quite nervous and had got sweaty during the night which he has never done before.

As there was nothing to prove this was an attempted theft it wasn't reported to the police. However I think it is worthy of note. We have tried to inform as many people in the nearby area who may be concerned but thought it should be brought to your attention.

Metal thefts - Suffolk

Businesses and members of the public are being urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons or vehicles to the police, following a number of thefts of metal and associated items over the past two months.

In December 2009 there were at least 30 instances of theft of items such as scrap metal, cabling, lead from roofs, car batteries and components and pipes and plumbing supplies. So far in January 2010 (to 27th) there have been at least 46 reported thefts across Suffolk.

The value of metal has increased over time, and people should be vigilant in protecting their property and that of their neighbours. Owners of properties vulnerable to metal theft are urged to make their buildings and sites as secure as possible to keep criminals out. Where possible it is advised to use security lighting to deter thieves, and CCTV can also deter as well as capturing images of offenders and their vehicles. All gates and entrances to premises should be properly secured. Valuable property can be marked and photos taken, to identify it if its recovered. In some cases several thousand pounds worth of metal in its various forms has been stolen from premises, which takes a considerable amount of time to remove and a vehicle to transport. Any sightings of persons acting suspiciously near building sites or any property with lead roofing, or cold calling looking for scrap metal should be reported to police.

Just to let you know there was a break in at Little Buckland, nr Broadway last evening. A shed door was forced and a chain saw and a leaf blower were stolen.

With crime increasing rapidly due to the ecomonic climate everyone is at risk. I rarily receive any information from some of you although I know you are about in the community at night and in the early hours and see or hear of suspicious happennings. If I visit you personally you nearly always have information for me but unfortunately by then it is often out of date.

The Lusitano is a hot blood like the Arab and the Thoroughbred, and was selected as a hunter and combat horse due to its versatile, agile and courageous character, thus it can compete in today’s equestrian sports alongside the best of the traditional breeds. ICON is so far proving this.
He is by IDOLO, a Cremello Cruzado Lusitano, whom we bought as a 3 year old in Portugal. He is from the famous VEIGA stud, which was established some 300 years ago. It is still regarded as the top stud for the best horses today.
The show jumper NOVILHEIRO was also of VEIGA pedigree. Famous in the 1980’s owned and show jumped by John Whittaker. He was originally sold to France, to a dressage rider, who trained High school movements. From there he came to England and evented before becoming one of the top 20 international show jumpers in 1980s. He then started stud duties. CROWN CORNELION an eventer ridden by Pippa Funnell was by NOVILHEIRO.ICON has certainly inherited all the characteristics of the Veiga Lusitano, being brave and adaptable in every discipline he has tried.
Starting British Eventing in 2003 at intro and pre-novice with his owner he soon proved too talented so the ride was passed to sister in law, Charlotte Keevil.
In 2004 Icon was brought foward to be Graded by the National Stallion Assossiation. The Performace Test itself is held over 2 days. Horses are required to perform a dressage test, ridden and loose show jump as well as a cross-country course at BE Novice level. In addition to this they are ridden by a judge and marked for the ride as well as being assessed for type, conformation, movement and temperament. A Vet is present throughout. He achieved Grade 1 Status.
He was also awarded Grade 1 by The Arab Horse Society and is part of their Premium Stallion Scheme. One of the specific aims of the scheme is to encourage the testing of bloodlines and subsidize the breeding from horses that have proved themselves both under saddle and in-hand, and encouraging the use of Arab blood in modern Sport Horse Breeding.
Premiums are paid to mare owners on registration of a foal. Mares can also be brought into the scheme by being brought forward to one of a number of venues. Mares do not have to be registered with the AHS to be eligable.
The Arabian horse is the ancester of the thoroughbred and has contributed in the formation of many other breeds. To name just one, Tamarrillo is proof that the Arab remains a valuble cross when breeding a top class morden day Sport and Performance Horse.Icons dam, LUNIFAH also has some prestigous lines in her pedigree. Closely related to the dam of HACHIM, a former Premium Stallion who won the Dubai World Endurance Championship 20052005 saw Icon have some fantastic Eventing results including a win at Stockland Lovell Novice, 2nd at Cheltenham Novice and winning his first 2 day event at Chepstow on his Dressage score. It was a "with steeple-chase" format which he thought great fun, also winning the prize for the closest to xc optimum time.
He completed Hartpury CCI* having scored a respectable Dressage score 49, clear xc round found them lying in 9th place before show jumping. But with a couple of poles rolled it was enough to be out of the places but we were still thrilled to have completed safe and sound.
Only managing a few BSJA outings the highlight was at the Bicton 3 Day Jumping Show in July. Placed 2nd on Saturday mornings BN class, and 5th in the Novice Derby in the afternoon. With some 80 plus entries Icon was one of only 6 clear rounds jumped. Sunday saw another 2nd in the morning's BN. Before returning home in time for lunch!
He now has £160 BSJA winnings and is an Intermediate eventer.
Regular visits to West Kington Stud in Wiltshire find us eagerly awaiting Icons first foals this spring.
He has also learnt some High School movements and has done some display work and Dressage to Music Demonstrations
In October he showed off these talents at the Bath and West Equine Fair in Traditional Iberian costume to Spanish music.
His character and temperament is honest, sane as well as brave and courageous. He gives the most amazing ride being completely responsive and sensitive to the aids either body or voice, and is very forward going without being strong in any way.
He has earned his title of " The Ultimate All-Rounder" with his proven competition record and his willingness to try and succeed at everything that has been asked of him.
Icon is a homebred Lusitano/Arab, who is proving to be an extremely versatile, talented horse. So far, in his short competitive career, he has wins/places, points and money BSJA, British Eventing and British Dressage.
This is sure to be passed to his progeny.

2. Dr Ferraro research - Mud Issues NEED immune boost Whilst Ruggle-it has proven to be highly beneficial for mud issues, we've long said that for the most serious cases, the immune system must be boosted to work

from the insides – i.e. Probiotics. Dr Ferraro & his team at University of California Center for Equine Health clearly support this thinking. Although the research was conducted some years ago (and long before Ruggle-it was available!) we hope it'll give you peace of mind that nourishing the engine is a powerful tool alongside topical applications. 3. Pet – itchy ears, feet, bodies....Mites or Rice?

Whilst itching may be mites (the Harvest Mites have been terrible this Autumn), fleas & a host of other things (including shampoos with chemicals, sodium lauryl sulfate, phenoxyethanol & parabens), we are increasingly concerned about rice - in fact, much more so than cereals. Please see some of our web testimonials, the feedbacks can be pretty shocking. We see Potato as a much kinder ingredient.

Up until recently it's been hard to find feeds that don't contain rice...it's everywhere since cereals were

branded 'the enemy'! So on the web on the RUGGLE-IT PAGE under the 'Diet' sub heading, we've listed some comments & some easily available yet competitively priced options. We also see the importance of

boosting Omega 3 levels (see item 1 on page 1) to help the body 'calm & rejuvenate' the skin & body. And in some cases, using PROBIOTICS can be highly beneficial, almost like a 'system reboot'.

Finally, if not feeding a 100% raw diet (which many of us don't!), we believe that feeding 100% complete feeds unduly stresses the body because it demands our pets take on much more water than is intended to process it. Yet many pets don't drink more so it's probably being drawn from natural moisture within the body...which may mean the digestive process actually becomes a burden. Thus, we believe feeding at least 50% 'wet/tinned' feed with a plain mixer biscuit (not a complete feed fed as the mixer element), is a kinder way to nourish our pets when not using the BARF or similar 'raw' diet.

4. Spotlight. Animal Communication & Hands-On; Training Deaf Dogs

Deaf Dogs. Today's breeds seem to have so many more issues than in the 'good old days'...? Deaf

dogs are often confused with being disobedient or stupid. Then they're frequently abused and/or abandoned. Through no fault of their own, many have no future at all.....until now! Enter WWW.DEAFDAL.CO.UK – a wonderful group of volunteers with a website offering help, ideas, relevant links & even physical training on how to train deaf dogs (Dalmations & others) towards quality & contented lives. 5. Straw – beware of mould in FEEDS & Bedding

With two wet harvests in 2008 & '09, finding straw (let alone hay) that was baled in hot & dry weather may well be difficult. With dampness comes potential mould. Recent articles are also raising awareness...so as ever do your own research. It's one thing if bedding might be a bit mouldy but as it's now found its way into so many horse & alpaca feeds, it concerns us. So not only can shaking new straw into beds release mould particles into the air but with some of today's feeds encouraging animals to eat straw, there's the added risk of inhaling & eating mould (or if not mould, the chemicals that are included to suppress it). Call us old-fashioned but why straw & its 'sidings' are now 'bulking out' so many feeds seems very strange...perhaps we need modernising?! Until such enlightenment arrives, none of the above sounds good to us. If in doubt, it's another good reason to ensure your animals' immune systems are on 'top form' & able to cope. If you're not already using PROBIOTICS , then please consider them. If you're already using them for other issues, then you're already supporting the body for no additional cost!

6. Alpacas – now also gravely threatened by Badger issues

We are well aware of the terrible plight affecting so many cattle farmers from illness supposedly connected

to badgers. Well sadly it's also affecting the very lovely & gentle alpaca herds here in the UK. Whilst it's

received virtually NO media & in some cases has been actively suppressed, please believe us that this is a VERY serious threat. We know it's not just 'scaremongering' as too many of our clients have told us

they've had alpacas die from it. It's a complex & frightening issue...but if the industry stick their heads in the sand, only heartbreak beckons for these charming animals, their offspring & their owners' livelihoods. If you own alpacas (or have goats or cattle), please join those who are trying to minimise its potential impact. With awareness comes an ability to help prevent & protect – denial is sadly no longer an option. Do check out the British Alpaca Society's web on WWW.BAS-UK.COM and their newly formed ACTION GROUP

7. Price Increases – from 15 November 2009

As you know we became VAT registered on 1 July & have been carrying the 15% for the last 4 months (it goes up to 17.5% on 1 January). Along with the strength of the Euro, postal charges having gone up in

April (7 months ago), let alone diesel, very sadly we cannot sustain the current prices.

You asked me to sort a few words out about Jackie Weaver. I have attached a testimonial I did for her.

I discovered her one afternoon in Builth psychic fair and had a reading of Darcie done for a laugh really. She was advertising that she could communicate with your animal so gave it a go. I have used her on a number of occasions with Darcie and although we may not have completely cured the issue we have certainly got to the root of the problem and I have been given various options on how to deal with it.
We’ve also had the cat read (and cured his peeing in the corner problem – that just turned out to be an issue with a bowl of pot pouri – he didn’t like the smell so peed and we didn’t like that so put more down!). He was also amusing to listen to.

She charges £30 a session though if you can catch her at an event she is slightly cheaper. I think she is pretty reasonable when you compare it to physio and vets fees – both of which you could have already paid for and still not found the issue.

"I first contacted Jackie in October 2007. I was seeing a friend at the fayre in Builth and spotted Jackie on the way out. I thought it would be fun to ‘chat’ to my horse and took a seat.

I was amazed – she described Darcie to a T and she knew all about the shoeing problems and about the ‘chats’ in relation to the fence wire (I often found the shoes around the perimeter fence). I had Darcie and Crystal read – Darcie was hilarious. I was also going on a fun cross country day the following day and was worried that Darcie would panic in the trailer – having never been in one before. Jackie told her we were going off and would have fun and she walked into the trailer and travelled like a lamb all the way to Ledbury and back. We had a lovely day!

In May 2008 I came off Darcie rather badly – one minute I was out on a nice relaxed hack and the next my horse had turned into a demonic bronco. I sustained a hairline fracture to my back and was royally annoyed with the mare (and that was with wearing a back protector). I rang Jackie immediately on my arrival home as I was beside myself. I didn’t want to think badly of my horse but I was very sore and very cross. Jackie tuned in and described the exact moment when Darcie misbehaved. It turned out that the saddle was digging in – she had matured a lot over the last twelve months and I was in the middle of getting the saddler out. Also she had pulled a couple of muscles. Darcie was v upset at first – I had shouted at her and had threatened to sell her. Eventually it all came out and I felt awful that I hadn’t noticed the signs that there was something wrong. She is a lovely mare and has shown no malice since breeding her in 1999.

I had the physio out, the blacksmith and later the saddler and a new saddle later and all is well with the world. A catch up chat was had and it was explained that the saddle was new and would be comfortable and would not hurt her. The following weekend we hacked out – albeit with Crystal for company and she was as good as gold.

Jackie is a sympathetic and caring listener and tries very hard to communicate between both animal and owner. I have used her on 4 occasions now and have had excellent results with Darcie. Sometimes it’s just comforting to know what the problem is so that you can deal with it even if you can’t find the cure."
